Tips To Quickly Recover From Liposuction

Liposuction is a great way to melt fat from target areas on your body.  Recovery from liposuction varies from a few days to several weeks, depending on the extent of fat removal.  Here are a few tips to speed up the recovery time and prevent any complications.

Baby Yourself

Avoid heavy activity for a couple of weeks after the surgery.  Your wounds are still healing and you want to avoid putting extra pressure on them.

Take showers instead of baths.  The water temperature should be on the cooler side to protect the surgical area from heat related damage.

Invest in a wedge pillow.  Wedge pillows are great for elevating your surgical areas and will keep swelling at bay.  You can also use bed pillows for elevation but it's harder to keep them in position and wedge pillows are more comfortable.

Eating Precautions

Some swelling is inevitable.  You can reduce the amount of swelling by watching what you eat.

Monitor your sodium intake.  Avoid salty foods and beverages.  Drink lots of water to get rid of excess fluids and toxins.

Eat food rich in Vitamin K like eggs, yogurt, and leafy greens to speed up healing.

Buy the enzyme Bromelain and take it daily.  Bromelain blocks swelling from occurring so it's a great supplement to take post-liposuction.

Compression Wear

Don't just go to the store and buy spandex shapewear.  Do invest in high quality compression garments made for medical use.

The right compression garment will provide the requisite support to your surgical areas and achieve the proper contouring.  They also improve blood circulation and reduce swelling.  Because medical compression garments are meant to be worn for long periods of time, they are designed to minimize discomfort.

Look for medical garments that are lightweight and breathable; they will be more comfortable over time.  Don't buy garments with labels sewn inside the garment because they will irritate your skin with prolonged wear.  Also, look for latex free options if you have sensitive skin.

Follow the instructions of your doctor and keep wearing the garment for as long as prescribed.  Don't stop wearing it because you believe that you no longer need it.

Treat liposuction as a major surgery and take it easy on yourself for a few weeks.  With proper care, you will be on your feet and back to regular activities in no time at all. For more information, talk to a professional like Medilaser, Cosmetic Surgery and Vein Center.
